Install Yoast plugin in your WordPress setup. And Use the %Excerpt% variable inside the meta description field as shown in the attached screenshot.

If the post article has excerpt it will be displayed inside the meta description field otherwise a new excerpt will be genrated specifically to be used as a meta description by the Yoast plugin.
